The president of the republic receives the minister of water resources, emphasizes the importance of water dialogue on the basis of common interests
The President Fuad Masum received the Minister of Water Resources, Hassan Al-Janabi, and the accompanying delegation on Sunday at the Presidential Office in Baghdad. The meeting focused on recent developments following the start of water storage work in the Turkish Ilısu Dam. The President listened to a detailed explanation by the Minister about the expected effects of this on the Tigris River and the need of citizens and the environment for water. Minister Al-Janabi said that the ministry has continued dialogue with the Turkish side and is working to strengthen this dialogue and understanding in order to reduce the damage caused by the entry of the Ilısu Dam into service. During the meeting, they stressed the importance of intensive governmental action with Turkey, as well as with Iran and Syria, to reach fair and equitable results in water policy that guarantees rights.
