Council of Representatives committee plans to reduce number of MPs
The Council of Representatives’ Constitutional Amendments Committee confirmed on Sunday that its members have reached an agreement to reduce the size of the national legislature. Currently there are 329 members of the Council of Representatives, but the statement did not reveal the new number. Since the major unrest began on October 1, protesters have been demanding large-scale changes to Iraqi government and governance, including reforms to the way that elections are held.
