Iraq: High Representative/Vice-President Josep Borrell speaks to newly appointed Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi
High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union/Vice-President of the European Commission Josep Borrell held a phone call with the newly appointed Prime Minister of Iraq, Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, on Tuesday. Borrell congratulated Al-Kadhimi on his appointment and confirmed the EU’s intention to work closely together in addressing the multiple challenges Iraq is currently facing. Europe has a vital interest in a stable, prosperous and democratic Iraq. In the call, the EU’s readiness to step up its support to the new Iraqi government as it undertakes urgently needed political and economic reforms was reaffirmed.
